Post-Bariatric Lives Project

Sarah Trainer is the new post-doctoral research fellow affiliated with Obesity Solutions and the School of Human Evolution and Social Change.  She comes to us from the University of Arizona, where she recently completed a Ph.D. in medical and biocultural anthropology.  Her research interests focus on food and nutrition, obesity, body image, and stigma in contexts of rapidly increasing rates of obesity and associated chronic diseases on the one hand, and fat stigma on the other.  Geographically, she has worked extensively in the Middle East, including dissertation research in the UAE, as well as in the American Southwest.  At Obesity Solutions, Dr. Trainer will be working over the next year on the development of several research projects that aim to explore the ways in which obesity stigma reinforces weight gain within clinical and community settings.
